Otay Selects Winning Artists of the ‘Water is Life’ Student Poster Contest
Five young artists from schools in Chula Vista have won the Otay Water District’s 2021 Water is Life Student Poster Contest for illustrating the value of using water wisely.
Annually, the District’s educational program invites students to reflect on the importance of water conservation and stewardship. Students are encouraged to create posters illustrating the theme “water is life,” which relates to using water efficiently at home, school, in business and the community, and for environmental, agricultural, and recreational purposes.
This year, the District planned to select first- and second-place winners based on the categories: kindergarten-third grade, fourth-sixth grade, and middle school. Due to ineligibility, no second-place winner was selected from the middle school category.
The District will recognize the five winners at its monthly Board of Directors virtual meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 4. Prizes include a gift card, certificate, art kit, and goody bag for each winner.
“We are honored to have a talented group of students use their creative skills and knowledge to teach others the importance of being water smart,” said Eileen Salmeron, communications assistant and contest coordinator. “As California faces a drought, it is vital that our young generation knows the value of using our natural resources efficiently as possible.”
In addition, the District entered the five winning posters in the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s annual student poster contest. MWD will select the best posters among various participating water agencies across Southern California to feature in its 2022 Water is Life calendar. MWD will announce the winners later this year.
