Sustainable Landscape Program Offers New Incentives for Otay Customers

11:36 08 November in News

The San Diego Sustainable Landscape Program partnership is offering a new grant-funded financial incentive to qualified Otay customers who upgrade their residential turf areas to water-efficient landscapes and incorporate storm water management practices.

Customers can receive up to $1.75 per square foot toward eligible project costs for upgrading 500 to 3,000 square feet of existing turf lawns. The program also offers recipients a 71-page color guide, landscaping classes and materials, and technical assistance through personalized design coaching.

Funding is limited, and incentives are reserved for residential customers accepted into the program on a first-come, first-served basis. As of early November, more than 30 Otay customers have applied for the program.

Qualified applicants must comply with a set of rigorous design criteria that includes water-efficient plants, irrigation equipment, rainwater capture and detention features, and soil amendments to improve water efficiency.

Proposed project areas should have turf grass (live, brown or dead) prior to receiving an official “Notice to Proceed” from the program. Additional requirements to pre-qualify are listed at SustainableLandscapesSd.org.

This program is designed to help homeowners adopt sustainable landscaping practices and treat their landscape as a mini-watershed that provides more environmental benefits to our region. Participants must continue to follow the set of guidelines to keep their project sustainable and eligible to receive an incentive.
